PROJECTS : Gas Distribution Network System
The KMDA had been engaged by the State Government to plan and execute the project as an agent of the C & I Department. The project would enable distribution of 30 million cft. of coal gas per day, 20 m. from Dankuni and 10 m. from Durgapur, to the cities of Kolkata and Howrah. The salient features of the project are:
Replacing the worn-out and over-loaded gas mains of the existing OGCU;
Laying of new gas grid in the areas still uncovered, within the existing gas supply areas;
Supplying gas to the industrial areas on BT Road and Taratala Road and also areas under Howrah municipal corporation and Bally municipality.
The execution of the work required a great deal of technical competence and KMDA has almost completed the job successfully. The newly constituted Greater Kolkata Gas Supply Corporation is looking after the implementation and operation of the project since 1987. The completion cost of the project is Rs 79 crore.
