On-going Projects undertaken by the Urban Health Sector under KMDA
India Population Project
This Project is started and developed by KMDA in the year 1993-94, has covered already 35 lakh beneficiaries. This project aims in decrease motherly, fatality and Augments of Child Survival and providing universal access to Reproductive Health and child care.
Kolkata Slum Improvement Programme
The Kolkata Slum Improvement Programme (CSIP) is an initiative in that direction, in consultation with the Urban Poverty Office of the DFID (formerly ODA) of the Government of United Kingdom.
Ganga Action Plan
The lower stream of the Ganga, known as River Hooghly, passes through Kolkata. A large number of towns came up on both banks of the river, and were found to be discharging untreated sewage into the river, resulting in a high degree of pollution. The Ganga Action Plan aims at abatement of river water pollution by intercepting the sewage and diverting the same to sewage treatment plants.
Bustee Improvement Programme
Bustee Improvement Programme (BIP) is a welfare Package which includes to help the poor migrant Workers who stay in Bustee. The environmental improvement in slums also led to increasing rentals of dwellings.
CUDP III (Health)
The Kolkata Urban Development Programme - III (CUDP-III) adopted a strategy to provide health delivery services at the door steps of the beneficiaries through a cadre of community based Honorary Health Workers (HHWs).
Small Scale Enterprises Programme
KMDA designed the Small Scale Enterprises Programme to generate income and employment among slum-dwellers. The basic aim was to provide access to banking system for obtaining credit at reasonable terms. So the unemployment persons can open small scale business.
Refugee Colony Development
The Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) had received a huge influx of refugees in 1947 and 1971. Their makeshift living arrangements exhibited physical characteristics similar to slums. KMDA is now implementing a project called Infrastructure Development of Displaced Persons' Colonies in KMA, to improve the environment in refugee colonies.
Gas Distribution Network System
The project was aimed at replacing worn out and over-loaded gas mains, laying new gas grids and supplying gas to certain industrial areas. The execution of the work required a great deal of technical competence and KMDA has almost completed the job successfully.
Environment Protection and Heritage Conservation
