Sri Sarada Math was founded on 2nd December, 1954 on the bank of River Hooghly within Kamarhati Area. The condition of the bathing ghat used by the inmates of the Math as well as the condition of the river bank on either side of the ghat was in a dilapidated condition.

A proposal for improvement of the riverfront by pitching river bank and repairing/renovation of the existing bathing ghat was sent to Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. The sanctioned cost of the project was Rs. 62.83 lakhs.

The work was started in the month of November, 2003 and has been completed in the month of May, 2004.
